Sonya Davis gets jail for sex with teen boy

Sonya Davis, A 40-year old Powers, Oregon, woman has been sentenced to 60-days in jail and three years probation for having sex with a teenage male.

Davis, local police chief’s wife was arrested in March 2011 and was accused of engaging in sex with a 17-year-old boy. Rumors at Powers High School led to an investigation by Oregon State Police. Boy’s mother contacted detectives and said she and Davis’ husband — Powers Police Chief Rhett Davis — had found evidence of a sexual relationship between Sonya Davis and the boy.

The mother showed the detective her son’s cell phone, which had sexually explicit texts from Sonya’s cell phone. Rhett Davis informed the detective that Sonya Davis had told him she’d had sex with the boy.

When the detective interviewed Sonya Davis, she said she had had sex with the boy on four occasions, twice involving more than one act.

Davis, mother of 2, must register as a sex offender and must complete a sex offender treatment program after she is released from jail. Sex between an adult and a 17-year-old is a crime in Oregon because the teen is considered too young to give consent.

Davis could have been sentenced to five years in prison for each count of sex abuse, but the court chose a lighter sentence because Davis had no criminal history and was an upstanding member of the community.
