Sotelo, who had been working as a substitute teacher in several of the district’s schools, and might have been substituted at least once in the boy’s classroom, met the boy when her teen daughter brought the boy over to their house in March. The relationship between adult woman and teen boy eventually became physical in June when they performed sex acts on each other for the first time. The teen admitted he had sex at least once a week with Amanda Sotelo who also admitted to having an affair with the boy for several months. During the relationship she became pregnant.
The investigation of the sex abuse of the teen boy began when the boy’s mother brought the allegations to the district’s attention.
