Emily Suzanne Hansford, 43-year-old former teacher at Union Elementary School, Union, Mississippi, who was arrested in February 2012 for an alleged sexual relations with a male student, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after she pleaded guilty to sexual battery of a child under the age of 18 while in a position of trust.
Hansford, of 10670 Road 505, was arrested after Union police began their investigation when they received a complaint from the alleged victim's parents. Investigators also obtained evidence from the school district as part of the investigation.
When announcing sentence, Judge Cotten told Emily Hansford, who is a mother of two children, that he would accept the state's recommendation, the eight-year sentence recommended by the District Attorney's office as part of a plea bargain. She was also ordered to enroll in a long-term treatment and therapy program while incarcerated. She was also required to register as a sex offender. Father of the victim said he was satisfied with the sentencing.
According to the indictment, the alleged sexual battery occurred on or about January/February 2012 in Neshoba County.
